More than six million unpaid Carers secure new rights! But this was almost four years ago! One has to wonder just what has changed?
As a Carer for ten years for an elderly family member I have had to learn a lot and educate myself on various matters to do with care work. This help has not been provided to me instead I have had to be very proactive and seek out advice, support and help. There appears to be lots of leaflets but very little direct support unless one can pay for it. Carers need support and they need help. They should not have to seek out and educate themselves in methods to help their loved one's. Information and support should be directed through designated ports. For example the GP surgery could identify every person that is an unpaid Carer and then make sure that advice and support is targeted to them and the particular needs of those they care for. Social Services could be more proactive in assisting Carers. Douglas Clark Master Hypnotist, Clinical Hypnotherapist and Master Practitioner of NLP plus Founding Member of Therapy for Carers UK recognises that GP surgeries and Social Services are stretched both financially and in terms of commitments but that being said much more needs to be done to actively support and help Carers. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2079177/New-reforms-improve-rights-unpaid-carers-health-wellbeing-protected.html |
