We at Therapy for Carers UK like the new idea of Dementia Friends. It is a wonderful idea to be able to assist someone with Dementia. Dementia is a disease of the brain. It is not a normal consequence of aging. It can occur in younger people which is called Early Onset Dementia. The concept and idea behind Dementia Friends is very good. However, what support are those Dementia Friends going to receive? What support, help and care are the Carers going to receive.
Dementia Friends is excellent in that it raises awareness of Dementia within the general public's eyes and it provides simple, useful tips on how to help people with Dementia. However, as we are all hard pressed for time then if one does aim to support someone with Dementia what impact will it also have on the Dementia Friend. In essence the Dementia Friend idea is a social and community education and awareness building platform and in that regard it is to be applauded.
However, the people who are the personal Carers and the paid Carers working within the Care Profession need support too. They need help, advice and the ability to manage their own health and well being. That is what we at Therapy for Carers UK based in Warwickshire can do for you if you are a Carer.
Of course we at Therapy for Carers UK celebrate any initiative that helps and assists in making vulnerable people's lives better. So please see more at:
